Greater Northern Removals

Greater Northern Removals was established in Cairns in November 1986 by Les and Kirsten Forrester. It is a family owned and operated business. The company has been moving families across Australia and beyond since 1986. It is an accredited supplier to many Federal and State Government Departments including Defence Forces, Queensland Police, Queensland Health and Queensland Education. Greater Northern Removals joined AFRA, the official body of removals experts that helps regulate the removals industry, and won the AFRA Safety Management Award.

In 2015, it became partners with the Chess Moving Group and became a PTY LTD company. The company provides expert commercial and home removal services, as well as secure storage, within Cairns, Townsville and beyond. It offers packing and storage solutions. It handles furniture removals, corporate relocations, office or resort refurbishments. It provides removals insurance, pet transfers, vehicle relocations and car transfers, valet unpacking, and cleaning services. Greater Northern Removals has purpose built, secure and managed storage facilities that meet the highest government agency requirements.

It has a professionally trained team of removalists and handles all types of moves with no hidden costs. The company has over 40 years in business. Its managing director is Les and its financial director is Kirsten. Terry Homes joined as General Manager. It introduced containers and forklifts as it utilised the rail system for long distance work. It supported the Department of Transport and Main Roads with their move from Abbott Street to Lake Street. It secured work assisting Queensland Government and the Department of Defence with employee moves.

Relocations spanning long distances to Victoria, Tasmania and Perth, alongside local uplifts, feature prominently in accounts from people moving households and entire homes. Punctual, efficient crews are a consistent theme, with one reviewer describing a three-man team arriving as scheduled, handling second-floor stairs without trouble and delivering furniture in good order after a period in storage. Care of belongings is a point that comes up often, as customers report that items reached their destination in the condition they left and that nothing was damaged across repeated moves.

Communication before and after the job draws frequent praise, and named staff including Chess, Kelly, Chris, Trevor, Kaiki, Mick and Jurra are singled out for being responsive, organised and personable. Several reviewers note the quote exceeded some alternatives while adding that the professionalism and care justified the expense, and one mentions rescheduling at short notice without difficulty. Crews are described as friendly on arrival, accommodating of requests and willing to take extra steps to reduce stress, with pickups and deliveries at both ends handled smoothly.
